What is a family session
A family session is a portrait session where we can capture a variety of beautiful updated portraits of you and your family. This session can take place here at my home studio in Dunsville, Doncaster, or at any outdoor location of your choice. Family sessions can include anyone that you would like to bring, whether this be children, partners, parents, or even grandparents. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along.
But why do i need a family session?
A family photoshoot is a fun and exciting way to bring everyone together and capture some wholesome memories. By booking a family session you are adding to your families legacy, and providing them with beautiful images and wall art, that they will cherish and look back on in many years to come. I hear it way too often from mothers that they don't have many photographs with their children. Usual excuses being that their hair's not done or they're not wearing any makeup, or that they're usually the ones behind the camera taking the photos. Well this is why i provide the opportunity for mothers and parents to finally get in these photos, and not be the ones behind the camera, but in fact the ones in front of it.
Your children won't care if you're not at your ideal weight or if you have a few spots, all they see is the person that they love, and these are the photos that they are going to look back on when they're all grown up. At this very moment in time, this is the youngest that they will ever be again, and the youngest you'll ever be, so why wait?
I am also guilty of this as a mother, i actually looked back through my phone recently to try and find a photo of me and my four year old, to post on social media for Mother's day in March... and i struggled! I actually had to scroll back, past all the photos and videos i had taken of my little boy on his own, and the most recent photo i managed to find was from Christmas. I am so embarrassed by this, and i actually take a pledge to take way more photographs with my child, and you should do so too!
What happens during your family session
In this blog post, I'm going to be sharing with you what happens during a typical family session with me in my home studio.
So this beautiful family visited me on Sunday the 3rd of March to have their photographs taken and create some beautiful images that they can display around their home. Abby reached out to my Facebook page on the 15th of February, and after our discussion, followed by me giving her my availability, we decided on a date and got that booked into the diary! Abby arrived with her partner Levi, and their two children Lucy and baby Maxine. My main aim of any studio session, is to provide variety and quality to my client, as well as creating a comfortable, and welcoming environment. A lot of my clients tell me that they don't know how to pose, and are sometimes uncomfortable in front of the camera, which is why i do everything in my power, to make this experience fun and relaxed. We started off with some standing portraits of the whole family together. Baby maxine was a little restless and due a nap, but we worked through it and gave her all the time she needed to feel settled. Three months old can be a tough stage for babies as their teeth start to push through, and they go through a huge developmental leap, but baby Max did amazing and so did her big sister Lucy.
After the whole group photos i did a variety of different arrangements, mum with both children, dad with both children, sibling photos, and parents with each child individually and I also did some sitting poses. This tends to be my typical work flow to ensure that everyone takes equal part in the session and that there is plenty of variation in the gallery. During my studio sessions, i also show clients the images on the back of the camera to ensure that they are happy with the poses, and make sure that we tweak anything such as hair, and all my clients leave my studio feeling content, enthusiastic and excited to receive their images.
How long does it take?
My family sessions usually take around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on family sizes and children's ages. After the session i will send you an online proofing gallery within a week, which you'll be able to look through at a time that suits you, and select your favourite images. I also allow my clients to upgrade their packages and purchase their images, which most do! After selection has been made, I will then digitally edit your images with patience and attention to detail, to ensure you receive the most beautiful, high quality photographs.
